This is a scene that I get to enjoy multiple times a week. I see this field and barn on my way to church on Sunday mornings and evenings and on Wednesdays. I have wanted to take a photo of this barn and field for a while now, so Friday when I was on my way home from the dentist (which also takes me down this road), I finally decided to stop. It was in the opposite direction from which I was traveling, but I had my camera handy, and I remembered what we had just watched in class about Dorothea Lange and her famous Migrant Mother photo. She passed by the camp where this mother was and almost didn’t turn around to take photos there, but she did turn around and ended up taking the shot that so many people know today. I knew that I had been wanting to photograph this scene, and remembering this story about Dorothea Lange, I thought that I may miss a great shot if I didn’t turn around and go get it that day, so I did. I pulled over on the side of the road opposite the barn and took a handful of photos. All I had was a 50mm lens, so the images weren’t very tightly cropped in camera, but I cropped and did a little editing in post, producing this image. I’m pretty happy with it.
